17/07/2020 Angie, 13 ans disparue...

This book is well written, the story is quite well put together and really liked my teenage parts. It reads easily and is not strenuous to read.

A 16-year-old girl reappears after a 3-year absence and reunites with her family. She must then face her traumatic memory and conduct the investigation to understand what she did and where she lived during these 3 years of absence. Little by little, she realizes that she was kidnapped at 13 and lived with her kidnapper in a cabin deep in the woods.

Followed by a shrink, she discovers that her complete amnesia at the beginning is due to an DID.

She learns to face the violence she had to survive to succeed at the end of the story in integrating her different personalities.

I will not put this book in the section of the "resource" site because two things bothered me in the story. The fact that his shrink offered him at the beginning to participate in a clinical trial which consists in eliminating the parts using a biological virus. This part of the book is grotesque and completely fanciful and that's a shame because the rest of the story is very good ... The last point that bothers me is the fact that his therapist talks with the parts only under hypnosis. I think this conveys a misconception about dissociation therapy and how to approach someone with dissociative identity disorder.

To stay positive and objective, the explanations on dissociation are clear and easily understandable, and the end of the book with the integration of the parts is very beautiful and moving.

This book was very popular with my teenage parts and I come out of this reading with a lot of parts eager to fit in, I hear crying and also feel a lot of sadness.

The middle of the book about this wacky clinical trial made me very angry and almost stopped reading it. I sometimes have this desire, this desire to make finally disappear this DID which rots my life, to erase from my memory these atrocious events that I lived .... Read this book which evokes out loud what I can feel through at times anger and defeatism has been trying for me and has stirred up a lot of conflict inside.

I find it hard to have a firm opinion about it because some of my parts find it great (inside there is a pretty love of a midinette, the end is very tender ...) and others find it null and uninteresting ( and are exasperated because it is still a misleading book and conveys misconceptions about how to treat DID) ...
